For those who serve, like Jimmy Reddington who forever will be 19 years old, and make the ultimate sacrifice; those of us left behind bear the sole responsibility of honoring that sacrifice and never forgetting.  As long as children play baseball each summer at the Central City Little League, we will do our part to respectfully and faithfully fulfill that obligation.

WBRE did a spectacular piece on the dedication ceremony, and it was a truly well done nearly three minute story on the nightly local news.  The link to the story page with the video can be opened by

CITY - COUNTY CHAMPIONS!

After six days rest following the capture of the City Championship, Ross Zanghi once again took to the hill to lead JSW on their quest for just one more win; but not before Jimmy Forsette staked him with the lead with a towering fly ball to left center that landed for a double in the top half of the first.  Jimmy would later score on a Zanghi double to right.  The boys from Central City, from that point, would never really look back.

While the potent Throop lineup of solid hitters would come back to tie it up at one relatively quickly in their half of the first, JSW never relinquished the lead in all eight innings.

Leaving the game in the fifth after exhausting all of his available pitches, Zanghi left the game in the hands of reliever Matt Berardelli who completed the game through eight full innings while walking away with the win.  Berardelli got himself in and then out of trouble in the bottom of the seventh when Throop battled back to put runners on first and second with nobody out.  Berardelli grabbed a hot shot back to the box and doubled off the Throop runner at first to complete the double play.  Out of danger, JSW cruised through the rest of the inning unscathed with the tie in tact into the eighth.

Key contributions were, again, made by Kristian Lynn defensively behind the plate and Jimmy Forsette who played a solid short for the entire eight inning ordeal.

Anthony Maro chimed in with a solid base hit in the eighth along with Collin "Books" Schaub who is credited with driving in the go-ahead RBI in what would prove to be the last inning of Little League baseball played in the district this season. Central City would take a 5-3 lead into the bottom of the eighth on what would prove to be the capstone of their season-long journey to greatness.

Stellar defensive performances from Sean Bagasevich, who made an incredible catch in left, as well as Zanghi who, by this point in the game, was playing second base allowed the boys from JSW to cruise through the Throop order in the bottom of the eight and bring home the flag to Wood Street for the first time in sixty years!

On that summer night, JSW succeeded in capturing the first City/County flag in the league's near 60 year history.  The last team from Central City get to the City/County Championship Game was the 1986 team led by Hal Franklin.  That team unfortunately lost settling for a City Championship that year.  That was twenty-five years ago.  Long before any of the champions of today were even a thought in their parents dreams.

Congratulations to this truly amazing group of young men who make up the JSW team for a job well done.  Thank you, again, to our kind and generous sponsors John and Tony White of JSW Insurance.  And, lastly, a huge thank you and congratulations to Manager Ross Zanghi and Coaches Mike Forsette and Art Michael.  Gentlemen, you are to be congratulated for putting Central City back on the local Little League map after many years of absence.  A great group of players, parents, coaches, and supporters who all came together to make it work.  Thank you to you all from the bottom of my heart.
